STORY 1
Biami and Marmoo
as told by Pauline McLeod - NSW

This is a creation story telling of Australia’s first bird.

Synopsis:
Biami was the good spirit who came to earth and created plants, trees, he made rivers and streams, waterholes and billabongs, waterfalls and wind.

After creating all these things Biami decided to stay on earth for a while, but Biami had an enemy, Marmoo the evil one. Marmoo was jealous of Biami and everything Biami made. Marmoo was always complaining to his wife about Biami. Marmoo said he could do better and he would destroy everything Biami made. So Marmoo created thousands of little creatures and told them to go out and eat everything that Biami had made. Biami was horrified at what the creatures where doing, so called on Mother Nature for help. Mother Nature used her magic and created a bird, the Liar Bird, to eat all of Marmoo’s small creatures. That is how the birds and insects where made.
