STORY 4
The Dolphin
as told by Charles Moran - NSW

Dolphins would help the tribe fish until one fatal day.

Synopsis:
When the tribe would go fishing they would call upon the dolphins to help them bring the fish in. The old people would go to the river and beat their spears on the water. This attracted the dolphins, who would chase schools of sea mullet into the shallow water. One day two men from the Wwuble tribe went to the beach with their net and when they pulled it in, there was a dolphin in it as well. One of the men was curious about why the dolphin was so clever so he killed the dolphin with his boomerang and cut it open on the beach.Another tribe came to the beach to fish and when they called the dolphins, they wouldn’t appear. They beat on the water and sang to them but they still wouldn’t appear, so the old men of the tribes had a meeting. The old man of the tribe who’s fisherman had killed the dolphin punished him by throwing them into the sea with his boomerang, turning him into a dolphin. The dolphins never returned to help the tribe fish.
