Series 03
STORY 4
Tuggan Tuggan as told by Oodgeroo Noonuccal – Stradbroke Island
Love and duty are the central themes of this story
Synopsis:
Tuggan Tuggan tells of a man who fell in love with the beauty of the Silky Oak tree and searched for a cloak to cover her trembling silvery leaves instead of hunting for food for his tribe. As punishment the tribe threw Tuggan Tuggan’s boomerang far away. After days and days of searching for his boomerang and for a cloak, the good spirit, Biami found Tuggan Tuggan collapsed under the Silky Oak. Biami returned his boomerang and when Tuggan Tuggan threw the boomerang into the air it became a golden cloak covering the leaves of the Silky Oak tree, thus fulfilling Tuggan Tuggan’s last wish. This story teaches about unconditional love and the rewards of giving love selflessly.
